Give supplies, get involved in schools, says Duncan
Walthall County School District’s Parent & Community Engagement Coordinator, Robin Duncan, accepts donations of school supplies for distribution to needy students throughout the year.
“We gladly accept donations of supplies and distribute them discretely to students who are in need,” Duncan said.
Drop off supplies, ranging from back packs to pencils, notebooks, composition books–anything for students in grades K-12–to Duncan’s office, located on the Tylertown High School campus in the former alternative school building.
“Drop off the supplies anytime, and we’ll make sure they reach the students,” she said.
Duncan takes over the parent and community engagement post this year with plans to involve everyone in the community in the school system, whether they are parents or not.
She was successful in getting people involved at Tylertown Primary School when she was principal there, and plans to expand similar projects throughout the district.
“Getting everyone involved in schools is a key to their success,” she said. “Not only parents, but business people, civic groups…everyone needs to be involved in the school system. For schools to develop and be successful, they need to have the involvement of everyone in some way.”
