Darlene Swinney, 91, died Jan. 23, 2025, at her home in Tylertown. She was born to Charlie and Lula Cowart Green Jan. 20, 1934, in Tylertown.
She attended Magee’s Creek School. She was married to Idell Lee and then Ross Swinney. She served as a cook and a housekeeper. She also worked at Zenith Telvision Co. in New Orleans.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three children, Doris Green, Eloise Edwards and Odell Lee Green and 10 siblings.
Survivors are four children, Diane Dandridge of Milwaukee, WI, Ray Charles Lee of New Orleans, Mary Louise Swinney of Tylertown, and Calvin Lawrence Swinney of Chicago, IL.
A funeral service was Feb. 1, 2025, at Magee’s Creek MBC with Rev. George W. Coney officiating and rendering the eulogy, interment at Magee’s Creek MBC Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Lee Newell, Sylvester Newell, Damian Hunter, Mitchell McGee, Chauncey Robinson and Elijah Magee.
Honorary pallbearers were Ray Charles Lee, Kevin Jones, Dennis Conerly, Calvin Swinney and Robert Bailey.
Washington Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
