State basketball playoffs set to begin this week

State basketball playoffs were set to begin Monday after teams finished regional play over the weekend.
The first round of play in both Class 1A and 3A were being played beginning Feb. 10. Second round games are to get underway Valentine’s day, while the third round is to begin Feb. 20, according to brackets on the Mississippi High School Activities Assn. website.
Tylertown played host to the 3A region 8 basketball playoffs last week, while Salem’s Lady Wildcats went on the road to Lumberton for the 1A Region 8 tournament to decide who advances to the first round of the state playoffs that got underway Monday.
Lumberton defeated the Lady ‘Cats 62-31 in the first game, setting up a game with East Marion played last Thursday.
At Tylertown the Chiefs were to play St. Patrick last Friday and the Lady Chiefs were to play OLA last Thursday.
The championship and consolation games were set for Friday.
