Lahomia Smith Lyles died Feb. 6, 2025. She was born Sept. 15, 1936, to the late Edward and Earsia Ellzey Smith. Mrs. Lyles is survived by her husband, Hosea Lyles.
She attended Tylertown Elementary School and graduated from Magee’s Creek HIgh School. She attended Jackson State University and received a bachelor of science degree in language arts. Whle at Jackson State, she met and married Hosea Lyles and to this union, one child was born, Avis Lyvette Lyles, who preceded them both in death.
They moved to Chicago, and she continued her education. At Chicago State University, she received a master degree in language arts. She worked for Chicago State University for 42 years.
Upon her retirement, she retured to Tylertown and became of member of Magee’s Creek Missionary Baptist Church.
Funeral services were Feb. 11, 2025, at Magee’s Creek Missionary Baptist Church, with Rev. Dr. George W. Coney rendering the eulogy, interment at Tylertown Cemetery No. 2.
Washington Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
