Jermonte Barnes, 29, of Jayess, died May 18, 2025, in McComb. He was born Oct. 22, 1995, in McComb to La’Mont Barnes and Janice C. Jefferson.
He attended Tylertown High School and Bogue Chitto High School where he was a member of the football team. He was known as an activist in raising awareness in the community working to stop gun violence amongst his peers.
He was preceded in death by grandparents: Bobbie and Angie Barnes; Kelly Jefferson and Janice Elaine Jefferson; one uncle Kendrick “Man” Jefferson.
Survivors are his mother, Janice (Josea) Oatis of Columbia; his father La’Mont (MaeRose) Barnes of Bogue Chitto; six children, Janari Barnes, Kamari Wade, Ethan Jenkins, Legacie Jones, A’zyiah Thompson and Kayson Bullock; two sisters, Areka Jefferson and Tamaria Carter; three brothers, Davion F. McKinney, Amorian Barnes, Zachary Barnes; three step sisters, Kyla Oatis, Coutney and Ebonee Blackwell; one niece, A’Kyri E. Carr; one stepbrother, Jermarco Walker; a special aunt, Victoria (Eddie) Carter of Jayess.
Funeral services were May 31, 2025, at West Holy Hill COGIC, pastor Terry Bridges officiating, interment in West Holy Hill Cemetery.
