Town’s Halloween party returns

For most people, October is something of a precursor to the holiday season.
Businesses and some homeowners go all-out with Halloween and fall decor.
Pumpkins, hay bales, corn, and cane stalks are set up in Centennial Square, in the median in front of the courthouse as well as in planters and green spaces around town.
But there are only a few, if any, that can top the Halloween decor of Amy’s Hair and Nails and the Boujee Boutique where ghouls, goblins and floating spirits are reminiscent of an old Boris Karloff or Bela Lugosi movie, or the later on-screen antics of Christopher Lee.
Tylertown’s well-known Halloween Party takes place on Halloween day from 3-5. Parents may bring their kids to town where they can roam from store-to-store collecting treats. Besides the costumed kids, there are plenty of store employees who costume and take part in the fun.
For many parents, the town’s party serves as their kids’ trick-or-treat outing since police are out in force inspiring a safe environment, feeling more controlled than letting them go to houses after dark.
The Halloween Party has been going on for decades when a few stores started giving away candy and treats to local kids after school.
Eventually it grew to attract other stores and was adopted by the Walthall Chamber of Commerce as a town-wide event.
