Jerry Wayne Popwell, 71, of Columbia, died Feb. 23, 2026, at the Forrest General Hospital in Hattiesburg. He was born Nov. 17, 1954, in Tylertown.
A visitation was at Capps Funeral Home, Tylertown, on Feb. 26, 2026, and Feb. 27, 2026, with Rev. Austin Smith and Rev. Jerry Terrell officiating. Burial was at White Family Cemetery in Columbia. Capps Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Popwell enjoyed spending time with people, getting to know them and seeing what he could do to help them out when they were in need. He enjoyed going to church and giving praise to his Lord. He loved his family and taking care of them. Always seemed to have a smile and was able to make you laugh and forget for a moment all the things that were going on around you.
He was preceded in death by his son, Timothy “Bull” Wayne Popwell; father, Clyde Popwell; mother, Mary Ruth Hines Popwell; sister, Helen Popwell; daughter-in-law, Kristi Pittman Popwell.
Survivors include his wife, Martha Carol Boleware Popwell; daughters, Tabitha Popwell (Bennie Garner) and Tina Ruth Smith (Austin) of Columbia, MS; brothers, Sammy Popwell (Joan), James David Popwell (Teresa) and Douglas Popwell; sister, Mary Evelyn Provost; grandchildren, Breanna Popwell, Bradley Popwell, Conner Popwell, Emily Saenz and Natalie Saenz; nephews, Jacob Waller (Brianna) and Reavie Waller; daughter-in-law, Melissa Seanz Popwell.
Pallbearers were Jacob Waller, Zachary Popwell, Zane Popwell, Reavie Waller, Johnny Davis, and Dalton Cochran. Special music was performed by Nathaniel Smith.
