Laverne Dillon Edmonson, 82, of Hockley, TX, and a native of Tylertown, died Jan. 2, 2025. She was born May 19, 1942, in Tylertown, to the late Harding Dillon and Celestine Otis Dillon.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph “Joe’ Edmundson; her sisters, Willola Magee and Etta Jene Goins; and her brother, Cornelius Dillon.
She was a member of Mount Wade Missionary Baptist Church in Brookhaven and was involved in the senior women’s mission.
She got a bachelor of science degree in elementary education from Alcorn State University and later received her master’s degree in education from Jackson State University. She taught for over 30 years in the Brookhaven School Dist. before retiring. She remained active active in the Retired Teachers Assn. where she served as chaplain.
Survivors are one brother-in-law, Marsel Magee of Biloxi; one sister-in-law, Laytona Dillon of Baton Rouge; four nieces: Nyoakae (Brunise) Warren of Hockley, Tex.; Laedecia (Lurrus) Fulton of McComb; Sharifa Goins of Oakland, CA; and Rhonda (Roville) Thomas of Cypress, TX; and one nephew, Leathon (Sophia) Magee of Shreveport; God-children, Pamela Fells of Brandon and Shawn Covington of Brookhaven; two God-sisters, Irene Liddell and Arlene Brown, both of Brookhaven; a special niece/caregiver, Beatrice Cameron.
Funeral services were Jan. 11, 2025, at Mt. Wade Baptist Church Brookhaven, Dr. P. Randolph Hamilton, Sr. officiating with interment in Rose Hill Cemetery, Brookhaven.
