Jimmie Dale Boyd
May 28, 1946 – Dec. 16, 2025
Jimmie Dale Boyd, 79, of Jayess, passed away December 16, 2025, at his residence. He was born in Tylertown, MS, on May 28, 1946, to Sammie Edrie Boyd and Mildred Marshalene Craft. A memorial service was held Saturday, December 20, 2025, at Sartinville Church.
Jimmie Boyd was a dairy farmer for over 36 years. He began doing woodwork in his spare time and that led to him teaching himself to be a carpenter. He had an expertise at cabinet making. After losing his home to a fire many years ago, he rallied with the community to get more local volunteer fire departments. He devoted his time to fighting fires and building up the fire departments so that they were a success in helping the communities. He served on the Magee’s Creek water board for close to 10 years. He also served on the 911 Committee in Walthall County. He was fire chief of the 4th District fire Department for over 15 years before taking over as Walthall County Fire Coordinator. He worked with the fire departments and the volunteer firemen and women to get the best ratings for their districts. Jimmy was a jack of all trades, he was a farmer, a pulp wood hauler, truck driver, railroad worker, oilfield worker, plumber, and electrician. He was well known in his community. He was always the one that people would call if they had a problem and he would be there. He was also a softball coach in his younger years and took his team to Kansas for the 13-15 year old USSSA World Series. He spent his older years following his grandsons with their sports and activities. He had extended grandkids that would come and hang around his house on the weekends with his grandkids. They would swim, shoot fireworks, build things, ride 4 wheelers, and he would make them pancakes with cheese. He loved all of them, they made him feel young he would say. He had a heart of gold. He loved his daughters, son in laws, grandchildren, and his great grandchildren. His joy in life was his love for his wife Dixie.
He was proceeded in death by his parents Sammie Edrie and Marshalene Boyd, and a brother Jerrell Boyd. Brother in laws, Kent Cochran and Paul Sones.
He is survived by his wife Dixie of 56 years, his daughters Marsha Smith (Joey), Stacie Willie (Timmy), his grandchildren Kaleb Smith (Olivia), Kody Smith (Makenzie), Kayne Willie (Morgan), Kannon Willie, his great grandchildren Gentry Smith, Kennedy Guy, and due in April 2026 Maddison Jimmie. Sisters Kaye Beard (Garry), Rose Sones, Millie Cochran, and Alice Sandifer (Sandy). A special cousin, Tommy Craft of Yazoo City.
