Judges election this year moves Walthall into new circuit, chancery districts
The 2026 elections, along with a court redistricting plan, already okayed by the legislature, but set to take effect in 2027, Walthall County, for the first time in history, will move into circuit and chancery districts that separate it from Pike County.
In 2027, Walthall joins a newly redrawn 15th Circuit Court District with Marion, Lamar and Pearl River counties.
The county will also become a part of the 10th Chancery Court District joining Marion, Lamar and Pearl River counties. The district will have four chancellors, one from Lamar County, one from Pearl River County and the remaining two elected from anywhere in the district.
Qualifying opened Friday, Jan. 2, for the posts. Feb. 2 at 5 p.m. is the deadline.
The election for the new judges’ post is during the Nov. 3, 2026, general election. The new judges take office in the new districts Jan. 1, 2027.
One countian has qualified for the 15th Circuit Court district judge’s post. Ryan Bruhl announced he has filed to run for a circuit judge’s post in the redrawn district.
