John Williams, Jr., 82, died June 14, 2026, at Marion General Hospital, Columbia, following a brief illness. He was born Sept. 19, 1943, in Victorville, CA, to the late Johnny Williams and Clementine Cowart Williams. He later moved to Kokomo, MS, where he spent his early years before joining the U.S. military. He served for 12 years and was honorably discharged.
After his military service, John married Maxine Sellers and relocated to New Orleans, where he worked as a longshoreman. They had three children and together shared 61 years of marriage.
He was preceded in death by his parents; child, Kimtrele M. Williams; his sister, Sylvia Williams; brothers, Wilbert Williams and Darryl Williams.
Survivors include his wife, Maxine Sellers Williams; brother, TC Williams; his stepson, Orlando Sellers (Lesha Abram Sellers); his children, Tikisha Williams and Demetre L. Williams; his grandchildren; great-grandchildren; one brother-in-law; and three sisters-in-law.
Funeral services were June 20, 2026, at Craft-Dillon-Ginn Funeral Chapel, Tylertown. Burial was in Kokomo Cemetery, with Rev. Timothy Magee officiating the services. Services were entrusted to Craft-Dillon-Ginn Funeral Chapel. Friends may offer online condolences at www.craftfuneralhome.com.
