James William Barnes, 73, of Somerset, NJ, died July 2, 2020.
Born Nov. 9, 1946, in Tylertown, he was the son of the late Iddo and Rosalie Hewitt Barnes.
He graduated from JJ Gulledge High School in 1963. He was a honorably discharged retired US Army Vietnam Veteran that served from 1966 to 1986. During his time in the army he received a Bronze Star; this is the among one of his many honors that he received while serving time in the Army. He was a very distinguished Vietnam veteran. He worked for the New Jersey Post Office until he retired.
In addition to his parents, he was in preceded in death by two sisters, Elma R. Curry and Waudine Owens; four brothers, Collis “Pete” Vaudie, Robert Barnes and Ray Magee; a special friend, Ella Wright.
Survivors are his son, Kenneth Wayne (Nancy) Barnes from Pennsylvania; two grandchildren, Kenneth (Nicole) Clark of Las Vegas, NV, and Sasha Barnes of Pennsylvania; five great grandchildren, Nathan, Emmanuel, Elijah, Noah and Laniya; two brothers, Curtis (Annie) Barnes and Ralph (Gladys) Barnes of Foxworth; seven sisters, his twin, Joan M. Ellzey and Torricelli Barnes of Foxworth, Love Joyce (Sharfield) Mark of Tylertown, Sharon J (David) Ellington of Perth Amboy, NJ, Sherrie Barnes, Sannella Barnes of Somerset, NJ, and Claudine (Eddie) Hood of Somerset, NJ; two sisters-in-law, Vera Barnes and Brenda Barnes.
A graveside service was July 16, 2020, at 2nd Mt Bethel Cemetery with Rev. Chris Barnes rendering the eulogy, interment in the 2nd Mt. Bethel MBC Cemetery in Sandy Hook.
Pallbearers were Tracy Barnes, Patrick Mark, Curtis Barnes Jr., Christopher Mark, Clay Ellzey and Derrick Mark.
Honorary pallbearers were Kenneth Wayne Barnes, Curtis Barnes Sr., Stacy Barnes, Ralph Barnes, Sharfield Mark and Dominique Kelly.
Washington Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
