Funeral services for Jeffrey Odell McKenzie, 47, of Tylertown, were Oct. 28, 2020, at Dinan Baptist Church with Rev. Lee Myers officiating, burial in the Enon Church Cemetery.
McKenzie died at Albany Medical Center in New York on Oct. 23, 2020. He was born Oct. 10, 1973, in Columbia to Kay and Odell McKenzie. He was preceded in death by grandparents Herman O. and Willie Mae McKenzie and Elton and Hattie Foil; and father-in-law Randy Phillips.
McKenzie was a former chicken farmer with a degree in poultry science from Mississippi State. He enjoyed hunting and running trout lines on the Pearl River with his friends and family. He coached his son, JScott, throughout his Dixie Youth career that ended with a trip to the Dixie Youth World Series in 2017. He always attended his children’s sporting events, including his daughter’s dance competitions. McKenzie also loved music and entertaining a crowd. He was a member of the band JYNXED and performed with many other local bands.
Survivors include his wife of 21 years Sonya McKenzie; daughter Gracie McKenzie; son JScott McKenzie; parents Odell and Kay McKenzie; brothers Clark (Amanda) McKenzie and Josh (Katie) McKenzie; mother-in-law Bonnie Phillips; brother-in-law Scott Phillips; nieces Bentley Martin, Blaire Martin, Saylem Wilson, and Randi Phillips; nephews Drake McKenzie, Trey Phillips, and Sawyer Phillips.
Pallbearers are Justin Boyd, Albert Lowery, Brad Price, Kriss Dunaway, Brad Alford, Scott Phillips, Larry Henning, and Jon Miller.
Honorary pallbearers are Cody Ward, Dustin McKenzie, Jerry Hawn, Dan Hawn, Joe Rayborn, Jason Boyd, Brad Rimes, and Kevin Brumfield.
In lieu of flowers please make donations to Salem Baseball Field at Salem Attendance Center in honor of Jeff McKenzie.
