Damage to determine FEMA aid
Mississippi Emergency Management Agency is asking the Federal Emergency Management Agency to help determine Hurricane Ida damages over several counties to determine if residents will qualify for storm assistance.
The counties included in the request are Walthall, Pike, Amite, Wilkinson, Hancock, Harrison, Jackson and Pearl River.
If approved, FEMA will begin validating the initial damage numbers gathered by counties and MEMA.
Initial damage estimates estimated about 450 homes affected including eight destroyed and 47 with major damage.
In Walthall County, emergency operations director Royce McKee said three or four homes were severely damaged, while roughly 150 houses sustained damage of a lesser nature and a couple of poultry houses were damaged. He said some 200 tarps had been delivered in the county to those suffering roof damage.
