Evelyn Magee, 95, of New Orleans, Tylertown native, died at New Orleans East Hospital on Nov. 7, 2021, after a brief illness. She was born March 18, 1926, in Tylertown to Walter and Melissa Lewis.
She was married to Clyde Zeb Magee for 79 years. To this union nine children were born.
She was head chef at Mother’s Restaurant in the CBD of New Orleans. She was also employed as a cook by Dillard University and University of New Orleans. She later opened Glass House Restaurant. She was known for her red beans. She joined Galilee Church of God in Christ.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by five brothers, Rufus, Wardell, Sydney, Adworth and Conwell; four sisters, Laura Weathersby, Margaret Alexander, Lenes Brock and Herelene Hudnall; two sons, Malcolm and Randolph Magee; three grandchildren, Sherrie Johnson, Shelton Magee Jr., and Trina Magee; two great-great grandchildren, David Jr. and Chris Magee.
Survivors are her loving husband, Clyde Zeb Magee; seven children, Shelton of New Orleans, Zebedee Jr (Lorraine) of Chicago, IL, Curry (Kathy) of New Orleans, Quentella (Alvin) of New Orleans, Imogene (Gerald) of New Orleans, Linda of New Orleans, and Willine (Emmanuel) of Stone Mountain, GA; 25 grandchildren; 51 great grandchildren; 15 great-great grandchildren.
A funeral service was Nov. 19, 2021, at Craft-Ginn Funeral Chapel, interment at Magee Cemetery, pastor Dixon officiating.
