Harry G. Evans Sr., 66, of Jackson, a Lawrence County native, peacefully stepped out of this earthly life to life eternal on Aug. 12, 2022, at St. Dominic Jackson Memorial Hospital in Jackson.
Evans was born June 1, 1956, in Lawrence County to Arjulius Porter and Rosie Evans. He was later adopted by his grandparents, the late Jacob Evans Sr and Fannie Evans.
Just before graduating high school he joined the U.S. Army, where he ranked as high as staff sergeant. He was married to Paidra Ginn-Evans March 18, 2002.
He was known as K9 to the trucking industry for over 30 years. Over the span of his career, he was sought after and employed by many trucking companies. He was also an owner and operator. He was last employed by Sojourner Trucking Inc. in Crystal Springs.
His hobbies included hosting and going to family gatherings, watching truck and car shows, and riding his motorcycle with the Silver Riders of Jackson.
In addition to his parents and grandparents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Johnnie C. Evans (Dora Lee Evans, sister-in-law), Jacob Evans Jr. and Luther Walker Jr.
Survivor are his wife of 20 years, Paidra C. Evans and their five blended children, Eric Gleen Evans, Harry Glenn Evans Jr., Denna Marie Evans, Antwaur S. Bennett, and Arekia S. Bennett-Scott (Timothy); grandchildren, Dairius M. Evans, Desmond K Evans, DeAndre T. Evans, Emari C. Evans, DeMarcus A. Evans, A’Kayla N. Bennett, and Amilia Hill; four sisters, Regina Evans, Velenda Walker, Margie Peyton (Calvin), Schineice brother, Richard Walker (deBorah); one sister-in-law, Della Walker; two uncles, Lincton Porter (Dorothy) and Elma Lee Lewis; two brothers-in-law, Jewell E. Ginn Jr., and Eld. Joseph Bernard Ginn (Alicia).
His funeral service was Aug. 20, 2022, at Craft-Dillon-Ginn Funeral Chapel in Tylertown, pastor Fredrick Stewart officiating, with interment in the Ginn/Magee Cemetery in Tylertown with military honors.
