Skating rink offers free skating during Thursday, Nov. 3, celebration

While they’re not seen as much today, skating rinks are still popular pastimes for all ages, and just like they did years ago, the rinks, especially the permanent set-ups attract a lot of families, who return several times a year to enjoy an outing. Some of the smaller towns had to contend with portable skating rinks that traveled a circuit, from town to town.
Brookhaven Skating Rink, however, has offered residents of Lincoln and surrounding counties a safe, permanent skating location n for 50 years.
Three generations have operated the rink, which offers free skating Thursday, Nov. 3, in celebration of their five decades with free skating from 2-4 p.m. and 5-7 p.m.
Third generation owner Robbie Nettles says his family thanks the area for its support of Brookhaven Skating Rink over th4e years, and the Nov 3 free skating times is just a way to say ‘thank you’ to the community.
Nettles’ grandfather, Duane Nettles, constructed the skating rink 50 years ago, and it is still in use today.
