Dollie Elizabeth McKenzie, 88, of Tylertown, died July 16, 2023, at Forrest General Hospital in Hattiesburg. She was born Aug. 27, 1934, to the late Tommie Eugene and Myrtle Lea Cade Wallace. Along with her parents, she is also preceded in death by her husband of 64 years James McKenzie, and brother Jerry Wallace.
Mrs. McKenzie enjoyed cooking, sewing, gardening, and crocheting. Many memories with her children and grandchildren were spent in her kitchen. She worked as the cafeteria manager at Salem Attendance Center for 26 years. She was a longtime member of Salem Baptist Church. She made a famous egg custard pie.
Survivors include her sons Duane McKenzie, Archie McKenzie, Perry McKenzie and Ricky McKenzie (Susie); daughter Beverly Piper; grandchildren Kevin Piper, II (Bridgett), Rebecca Hopper (Jason), Kelly Howard (Bryan), Kimberly Thomas (Sam), Trisha Barrett (Kip), Kris McKenzie, Matthew McKenzie, Josh McKenzie, Michael McKenzie and Hannah McKenzie; 13 great grandchildren; brother Larry Wallace (Olive); sister-in-law Lavonne Wallace.
Funeral services were July 18, 2023, at Salem Baptist Church, burial at Boyd Cemetery in Salem, Rev. Mark Wicker, Rev. Joseph Miller, and Rev. Duane McKenzie officiating.
Pallbearers were Kip Barrett, Jason Hopper, Gary Harvey, Bryan Howard, Matthew McKenzie, and Michael McKenzie.
Honorary pallbearers were Kevin Piper II, Will Boyd, Brandan Criswell, Kris McKenzie, Josh McKenzie, Sam Thomas, and Kaden Treadaway.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to either Salem Baptist Church or Samaritan’s Purse, P.O. Box 3000, Boone NC 28607.
