On March 14, 1938, Garland Magee was born in Franklinton to the late Eldridge and Marie Magee. He died Aug. 20, 2023 at his home.
After receiving his education from the Washington Parish School System, he enlisted in the U.S. Army. Upon serving many years, he received an honorable discharge.
Survivors are his wife of 31 years, Mary Hammond-Magee; two daughters, Robbie (Matthew) Holmes and Sherrie Hammond of Tylertown; seven grandchildren: Dabresha (Robert) Garner II of Jonesboro, GA, Kaneisha (Nicholas) Lewis of Tylertown, Lachelle Holmes and Nakertice (Benjamin) Smith of Hattiesburg, Ka’Nya Ellzey and Ja’Tavius Quinn of Tylertown; seven great grandchildren: A’Layjah Magee, Kinley, Kyleigh and Robert Garner III, Paislee and Payson Smith, Kennon Carr III; brothers, Larry (Clarisse) Magee of Franklinton, Murel (Dorothy) Magee of Sandy Hook; one sister: Ida Brenda (Autry) Clark of Ravenna, OH; five special friends, Bytha Magee II, Robert Quinn, Fredrick Magee Jr., James Brad Lenoir and Charles Ball.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Paul and Willie D. Magee; one sister, Bonnie Sims; one daughter, Rhonda Rose Hammond.
Funeral services were Sept. 2, 2023, at Craft-Dillon-Ginn Memorial Chapel, pastor Andre Tillman officiating with interment in St. James Church Cemetery.
