David Curtis Grimsley, 93, of Utica, died Sept. 18, 2023. He was born Sept. 22, 1929, to John Henry and Alma Thomas Grimsley in Sandy Hook.
Grimsley was a bookkeeper at the Rankin Co. in Columbia for a number of years and then served the country in the Korean War. He also served in the music ministry at the following Baptist churches: Calvary, New Hope, Aberdeen, Tylertown, Purvis, Highland-Vicksburg, and Carson Springs.
He participated with other ministers on a mission trip to Bermuda and also performed with the Singing Churchmen in South Korea. Grimsley lead choir tours all over the U.S. and traveled with senior adults on church trips.
Funeral services were Sept. 23, 2023 at Carson Springs Baptist Church, burial in Carson Springs Cemetery. Bros. Carl Dickens, Archie Herrin, and Dr. Bob Magruger officiating along with Bro. Blake McDaniel who conducted the graveside service. Military rites were performed by American Legion Post 56.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years Wilda Grimsley; father John Henry Grimsley; mother Alma Thomas Grimsley; brother W. D. Grimsley; sisters R. V. Grimsley Vince and Johnnie Lou Grimsley Moore.
Survivors include his daughters Kathy Grafton and Pamela Jennings (Howard); grandchildren Brian Grafton (Adina), Jennifer Rouse (Justen), Andrea Strickland (Trey) and Curt Jennings (Jessica); great grandchildren Jacob Rouse, Jacie Rouse and Calhan Strickland.
Pallbearers were Garath Fortenberry, Jacob Fortenberry, Brian Grafton, Curt Jennings, Jacob Rouse, Justen Rouse, and Trey Strickland.
