Juanita “Jo’ Virginia Holmes, 95, of Jayess, died Oct. 13, 2024. She was born Jan. 22, 1929, to the late Alexander and Eula Rushing. Along with her parents she is also preceded in death by her husband of 65 years Herman E. Holmes; son Danny Holmes; daughter Sheila Holmes; granddaughter Sheila Estes; son-in-law Don Berry; four brothers; and four sisters.
Funeral services were Oct. 18, 2024 at Magee’s Creek Baptist Church, Jayess, with Bro. Buddy Day officiating, burial in Magee’s Creek Cemetery.
Mrs. Holmes was a member of Magee’s Creek Baptist Church and worker at the Pioneer Aerospace factory. She enjoyed the outdoors where she would tend to her flowers, take walks in the woods, birdwatching, and work in her garden. She also enjoyed taking vacations. If you ever were to drop by you would be offered a piece of pound cake that she was well known for.
Survivors are her daughters Thressa Estes (Van) and Lynda Berry; daughter-in-law Jennifer Holmes; grandchildren Teri Stewart (Ricky), Chris Harvey (Cheri), Leslie Kieffer (Rafael), Katie Dillon (Carlos), and Casey Holmes (Nikki); 12 great grandchildren; six great great grandchildren; sister Polly Boyd; brother Alexander B. Rushing, Jr.
