Snow, ice likely as winter storm settles in this week
This is the week weathermen say we will be exposed to bitter, cold temperatures and a good chance of snowfall. Some TV forecasts call for several inches of snowfall.
Windy conditions set in Sunday and even though air temperatures Monday, Martin Luther King Day, were being forecast to reach near 40, high northerly winds all day were making the temperatures feel much colder with wind chill factors bring temps to feel more like the 20s.
Monday night and Tuesday morning lows were expected to reach the mid-20s, but again, wind chill plays a part, making it feel like it’s in the teens.
In fact, that’s what makes this winter storm a little different than most cold snaps. High winds bringing in cold air to the area are causing the free air temperatures to seem much colder, making 25 degrees seem like 10-15 degrees.
Temperatures Tuesday were not expected to get above freezing. Forecasters were calling for the possibility of snow showers, maybe mixed with sleet. It’s possible that snow accumulations will be between 2-4 inches.
Daytime temperatures may be above freezing Wednesday through Friday, but falling back to the mid teens to 20s, and to 25 by Friday night.
