Reeves visit county, pledges support
Gov. Tate Reeves made a stop in Tylertown Monday to meet with elected officials, emergency workers and others saying state government is on the ground in Walthall and other counties affected by Saturday’s storm pattern that resulted in loss of property, shutdown of electric power, and sadly, the loss loss of life over many Mississippi counties.
State and local authorities say, despite the intensity of the storms, Mississippi’s death toll was less than expected as they viewed the damage.
He assured countians that the resources of MEMA are available to local officials, and he will ask for a disaster declaration from the White House so that counties can take advantage of the maximum amount of federal dollars and state dollars, as well as minimizing costs to the county.
Meantime cleanup crews and power crews are working to restore some sense of normalcy for the area affected. Volunteer crews will continue cleanup, piling debris at roadsides to be ready as soon as as federal declaration is issued.
Walthall resident Maj. Gen. Bobby M. Ginn, adjutant general of the Mississippi National Guard, said he will offer whatever help is available to the local area, as well.
