Kermit Ray Hughes, 80, a resident of Tylertown, died Sept. 23, 2025, at Lakeview Regional Medical Center.
He owned and operated Hughes Dairy Farm for many years and also operated Hughes Trucking, hauling milk for dairies throughout the area. Hughes also operated the Chevron gas station in Tylertown for a while.
He served his community and country in the Mississippi-Army National Guard for several years. Hughes was also elected as First District Walthall County Supervisor. He was a longtime active member of Lawrence Creek Baptist Church and he enjoyed watching old Western TV shows and movies.
Survivors are three daughters: Treasure (James) May of Knoxville, TN, Natasha Hughes of Petal, Tiffany (Rusty) Smith of Franklinton; five grandchildren: Austen (Katelynn) Hughes, Taylor May, Evan and Baileigh Smith, Ashley and Brian Seal, Easton Smith; great-grandchildren: Barrett Seal, Avery Seal, Sammy Smith, Sailor Hughes, Teagan Hughes, Ivy Hughes, Rylee May; sisters in law: Jean Thomas, June Thomas, Susan Thomas; special nephews and niece: James Murrell Hughes, Kelly Ray Hughes, Linda Gayle Chavers; special Cousins: Marilyn Andrews, JoAnn Massey.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years Betty Joyce Thomas Hughes, grandson Spencer May, parents Cannie Hughes and Lenora Dillon Hughes, brother and sister in law Prentiss and Mary Frances Hughes, father in law and mother in law Alphus and Hattie Thomas, sister in law and brother in law Thelma and Ray Watson, sister in law Pauline Lumpkin, brothers in law James Thomas, Marvin Thomas, Glen Thomas.
Funeral services were at Crain Funeral Home Sept. 28, 2025, with Eld. Duane Ball, Eld. Don Jacobs, and Eld. Lerand Hunt officiating, burial in the Thomas Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Austen Hughes, Easton Smith, Evan Smith, Brian Seal, Michael Thomas, Troy Landry and Kyle Hughes.
Honorary pallbearers were Mike Thomas, James Murrell Hughes, Kelly Ray Hughes, Paul Dillon and Jerry Dickinson.
Crain Funeral Home in Franklinton was in charge of the arrangements.
