Mozelle Baker Johnson, died Jan. 17, 2026, surrounded by the love of family and friends. She was born Dec. 21, 1933, to Delice and Lillian Baker in Pike County, MS.
Mozelle lived a life defined by quiet strength, selflessness, steady kindness, and an unfailing devotion to those she loved. Shortly after graduating from Southern University, she moved to New York and worked at Eastern Airlines for a number of years. She married Carl Johnson at New York City Hall on June 6, 1961. A union that lasted more than 59 years. Mozelle and Carl built a life together rooted in partnership, faith, family, a love of travel and the arts. They eventually welcomed two children, Brian Johnson and Carla Johnson, and many years later celebrated the arrival of grandchildren, Morgan Brathwaite and Austin Johnson, who brought them great joy.
Survivors include, Brian Johnson (son) and his spouse Rhonda Johnson; Carla Johnson (daughter); Morgan Brathwaite (granddaughter); Austin Johnson (grandson); Lenell Baker, Sr., Robert and Cecelie Johnson (brother and sister-in-law); Christina “Tina” Johnson (sister-in-law)
A memorial service for was held March 21, 2026, at Mt. Canaan MBC in Tylertown. Pastor Timothy Hughes officiated the services. Burial was in the Bridges Family Cemetery in Tylertown. Please share online condolences at www.craftdillonfuneralhome.org.
