Join in the Herbal Hour and Seed Exchange at the Library
By Douglas Thames
Brandy Guidry hosts a monthly Herbal Hour program at the Walthall County Public Library. It is on the last Saturday of each month, from 10-11 in the morning. She does a different class on herbal topics each month, with the class for May being “Your Herbal First Aid Kit” and the one in June being “Herbal Medicine Cabinet.” In addition to the class, she usually offers samples to take home and has an open period at the end of each class for your burning questions and to talk with the others about your experiences.
Recently, with help from patrons like Brandy and Debra, the Library will also be starting a Seed Exchange program. Currently, we have a large variety of free seed packets to choose from here at the Library for patrons to take home and grow in their gardens. Our goal with this program is to help those interested get into gardening, whether it be crops, flowers or herbs, with the hope that the community can collect some seeds from what they grow to help rebuild our stock with strong local heirloom plants that have been proven to grow well in your local area.
To kick this program off, we will have a Seed Saving Seminar, led by Brandy, here at the Library on June 19th at 3:30 p.m. for those who are interested but don’t know where to start!
