Harry James Smith, 76, died June 21, 2026, in McComb. He was born on June 2, 1950, the son of J.C. Smith and Thelma Peters Smith, of Tylertown.
Harry was a 1969 graduate of J.J. Gulledge High School and furthered his education at Southwest MS Community College, where he graduated in 1971. He also attended Mississippi Valley State University in Itta Bena, MS. Harry was employed with American Box Co. in Fernwood, MS, for a brief period of time, until he went to work at Croft Metals LLC, where he worked for more than 50 years.
Harry joined House of Prayer Ministries over 60 years ago, under the leadership of the late Eld. Cecil Lenard: Eld. Anthony Wilson then served as pastor until he became Bishop, and Rev. Lester Smith took on the role as pastor.
Harry J. Smith met and married the late Lizzel Magee Smith, and to this union two daughters were born. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lizzel; one daughter, Paula Lynette Smith; four siblings, Eloise (Don) Ratcliff Jackson, Ray W. (Bertha) Smith, J.W. Smith Sr., and Helen Newsom.
Survivors include his daughter, Sabrina (Eric) Collins; one grandson, Miles Collins, all of Brookhaven; one sister, Inez Smith Harris of Tylertown; two sisters-in-law, Jeannie “Jackie” Smith of McComb, and Allie Mae Johnson of Magnolia, MS; one aunt, Zenolia Smith of Tylertown; two brothers-in-law, Clifton Magee and Anthony Magee of Magnolia.
A public visitation was held June 27, 2026, at the House of Prayer, 93 Bridges Road, Tylertown, with Pastor Lester Smith rendering the eulogy.
Burial was in Mt. Canaan Church Cemetery, Tylertown.
