When most people think of Monaco, the city-state situated on the French Riviera in western Europe, they picture a wealthy, glamorous playground defined by superyachts, luxury sports cars, and the Monte Carlo Casino. Just a 30-minute walk from the Casino takes you to another kind of playground, the Stade Louis II, a stadium located only 250 meters from the Mediterranean Sea in the Fontvielle district of Monaco. The stadium serves primarily as a venue for football, being the home of AS Monaco, a professional football team. It also hosts the Herculis EBS Meeting, a world-renowned track and field competition of the Diamond League.
The Diamond League is an annual series of elite track and field competitions organized by World Athletics. On July 10, 2026, Tylertown’s Jordan Anthony competed against gold medalist competitors in the 2026 Monaco Diamond League men’s 100m. Jordan is the world and American champion over 60 meters, having won titles at the 2026 World Athletics Indoor Championships and the 2026 USA Indoor Championships. The Monaco men’s 100m was a fiercely contested sprint. Oblique Seville won in a narrow finish with 9.88 seconds. Jordan finished second in 9.92, one-hundredth shy of his personal best.
In an interview after the race, Jordan commented on the mental and emotional challenges that professional athletes have to overcome: “It was a funny race. I came to Europe in May, my first race was June 4, I think. It was Rome. A lot of people do not know my dad passed in June a couple of years ago. So June always hits heavy for me. So I had to go through mental health stuff, but that is what makes us professional athletes. You have got to overcome certain situations that you deal with in the outside world.”
Jordan continued, “And this was just like a starter. I showed myself like I am still who I say I am. It just took a couple of steps back and a few steps forward to understand the dance routine.
So now I understand the dance routine and I can perfect it. I do not regret coming to this sport because it is different and it is fun. But I do miss the feeling of scoring a touchdown. You cannot replicate that” (Track and Field Zone Facebook).
In reflecting upon the competition, Jordan imparts an inspirational message that we all can relate to: success is not always achieved in a straight shot, but is a journey filled with ups and downs, one step forward, and one step back, the dance of champions.
Jordan Anthony continues to represent around the world Tylertown and Walthall County in a way that makes us proud. We look forward to celebrating his progress all the way to the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
