Douglas Michael Kennedy, Jr., 64, a New Orleans native, died on July 8, 2026, at his residence in Tylertown. He was born Dec. 29, 1961, in New Orleans, to the late Douglas Michael Kennedy Sr., and Lillian Gwendolyn Kennedy.
Douglas was affectionately known as “Mr. D” and “Bird.” He spent most of his life in New Orleans before relocating to Tylertown.
Mr. D was married to his wife, Etta B. Kennedy, for 38 years. He dedicated much of his career to shipping and receiving and was recognized for his many years of faithful service at the J.W. Marriott.
Douglas was a faithful member of Darbun Worship Community Center. He enjoyed football, a good game of chess, and meaningful conversations. To his grandchildren, he was known as “Paw Paw DD,” a title he wore with pride and love.
He was preceded in death by Darrell Smith.
Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Etta B. Kennedy; his children, Douglas M. Taylor (Angela), Jerrell Smith, Ammie Banks (Darryl), Felicia (Jermaine) Johnson, Patricia Smith-Thomas, and Cassandra West; 14 grandchildren, Ashley, Deandrea, Ivoree, Jerrell, Tony (Miriam), Bianca, Jessica, Talicia, Darriana, Thomas (Faith), Brianna (Sidney), Christine (Jessenia), Rodnicia, and Zavier; and numerous great-grandchildren; siblings, Alicia Kennedy, Brian Kennedy (Connie), and Shanarr Moore (Ronny Moore, Jr.)
Services were held July 18, 2026, at Craft-Dillon-Ginn Funeral Chapel in Tylertown. Burial was in the Bridges Family Cemetery. Services were entrusted to Craft-Dillon-Ginn Funeral Chapel, Tylertown. Please share online condolences at www.craftfuneralhome.com
