A graveside service for Sally Yvonne Tynes Brumfield, 91, of Hattiesburg, was at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens May 11, 2020, with Pastor Drew Chapman and Pastor Gary Shows officiating.
Mrs. Brumfield was born, one of eight children, April 12, 1929, to the late James Leslie and Ether Victoria Bracey Tynes in Lawrence County and died May 8, 2020, at her home in Hattiesburg.
She was preceded in death by Vena Tynes Bearden, Evelyn Tynes Dyer, James LaFroy Tynes, William Ray Tynes, and Christine Tynes Bennett.
Mrs. Brumfield was married to the late Batson Brumfield and had two children AnnClaire Brumfield (Chuck) Bennett of Hattiesburg and Joel Batson (Leighann) Brumfield of Tuscaloosa, AL, and had five grandchildren: Charles Alden (Ashlynn) and Joseph Brumfield Bennett of Hattiesburg; Robert Batson, Evelyn Tynes and Joel Burns Brumfield of Tuscaloosa, AL. She is also survived by two brothers: Walter Lee Tynes of Sartinville and Dale Tynes of Slidell, LA.
Mrs. Brumfield was a graduate of The University of Southern Mississippi and taught elementary children for 36 years in Lawrence and Walthall County Schools. She and Batson lived in the Salem community and were former members of Salem Baptist Church. She was an excellent cook and seamstress, especially enjoyed quilting. She was currently a member of Temple Baptist Church where she was active in Bible fellowship, prime timers, and chair aerobics. Her children remember her as a Proverbs 31 woman.
Pallbearers include: Alden Bennett, Batson Brumfield, Joseph Bennett, Burns Brumfield, John Parker, and Warren Parker.
