Billie Joe McElveen, 69, of Tylertown, died Aug. 10, 2020, at Marion General Hospital in Columbia.
Born Tuesday Nov. 21, 1950, in Tylertown, he was the son of the late Armetha McElveen. He was married to Diane Dillon McElveen and to this union three children were born, Greta (Eddie) Kelly, Greg (Priscilla) Dillon, both of Tylertown, and Billy (Astan) McElveen of Powder Springs, GA.
McElveen attended J.J. Gulledge High School. He worked at Tyler Tool for over 30 years. He also owned and operated McElveen Lawn Service for a number of years.
He loved cars, playing and listening to music of different blues groups and going to the races to hang with the guys.
Survivors are his wife and children; eight grandchildren, LaQuanza Kelly, Jermarion McElveen, Deseren Dillon, Na’Quijue Kelly, Greg Dillon, Questiny Kelly, Jayden McElveen and Aubrey McElveen; two great granddaughters, Zakiriyar Simmons and Zake Kelly; five sisters, Brenda (Charlie) Dillon, Joann McElveen, Ginger McElveen and Gen Holmes, all of Tylertown, and Chlora McElveen.
Preceding him in death was his sister, Glenda Dillon.
A graveside service was Aug. 16, 2020, at Tylertown Cemetery II.
Washington Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
