Peggy Jean Bennett, 89, of Tylertown, died April 8, 2026. She was born Feb. 7, 1937, in Tylertown, to the late Edgar and Era Grubbs. Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her brother Glen Grubbs and brother-in-law, Earl Ayers.
Left to cherish her memory is her loving husband of 68 years, Homer Bennett; son, Johnny Wayne (Yvonne) Bennett; granddaughters, Sarah Jean Wells (Cole), Brianna Bennett, and Beth Bennett; great-grandchildren, Charli Jean Wells and Andi Marie Wells; Sister, Frances Ayers; sister-in-law, Sue Grubbs.
Mrs. Peggy was a lifetime member of Union Baptist Church, where she was baptized in the creek next to it. She worked at the Haspel Garment factory, where she was placed as the queen for one year. Where most people remember her from and where her heart shone is when she worked at the High School and touched many lives through the years, as she would always have a kind word, a smile, and was always willing to help anyone who needed her. Her hobbies included cooking, baking, for which she won 1st place one year at the Dairy Festival and runner-up many other years, making sure her yard was always beautiful, growing a garden for her family and friends, but most of all spending time with family and friends.
Visitation was at Union Baptist Church, April 9, 2026, and April 10, 2026, Bro. Milard Moak officiated the services. Burial was at Tylertown Cemetery. Hartman-Hughes Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Pallbearers were Cole Wells, Mike Holmes, Chris Holmes, Rickie Dufrene, Rickey Dowell, and Earnest Lewis. Honorary pallbearers were Michael Grubbs, James Kemp, Jewell Holmes, Joey Lambert, Harold Dean Smith, Byron Montgomery, Raymond VanDan, Robert Ratliff, Billy Wayne Thornhill, and Danny McCallum.
