James Albert Bridges, 67, of Tylertown, died at his residence May 28, 2021, in Tylertown.
Born April 26, 1954, in Tylertown, he was the son of the late Jessie Bridges and Laurine Robertson Bridges. He was married to Betty Jean Walker Bridges.
He worked many jobs as a young man, most notably as a mechanic as well as a skilled chef. After a brief stint in the U.S. Army, Bridges returned to the civilian workforce and started driving trucks. He drove across country as well as into Canada and Mexico, until injuries forced him to retire in 2002.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, Delia and Albert Green; sister, Eva Nell Dillon; brother, J.B. Bridges; two grandchildren, De’vonte Williams and Te’Untrae; niece, Tremenda Foy; his favorite uncle, W.C. Bridges (Josie).
Survivors are his mother, Laurine Bridges; his wife of 26 years, Betty Bridges; his daughters, Celia (Hilton) Smith of Summit, Felicia (Alvin) Elliby of Tylertown, Greatta (Anthony) Hodges of Gulfport; stepdaughter Pamela Balthazar of New Orleans; brother, Willie Howard (Crow) of Kenner; three sisers, Patsy (Melvin) Quin of Summit, Nancy (Donel) Brock of Jayess Barbara (Ray) Warren of Tylertown; adopted sister, Demetric (Joshua) of Columbia; eight grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren.
A funeral service was June 5 2021, at New Testament Church of Deliverance, Rev. Vanjo Davis rendering the eulogy and officiating, interment in Tylertown Cemetery II.
Pallbearers were Alvin Elliby, Demonte Williams, Hilton Smith Jr., QuinMicheal Dillon, Ashton Ellzey and Zester Hodges.
Honorary pallbearers were Anthony Hodges, Arick Dillon, Melvin Quinn Jr., Camron Beverly, Timothy Jefferson, Leonard Holmes, Willie Ray Bridges and Kenneth Craft.
Washington Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
